Pro 97 problems!!!

I'm having problems with my Pro 97. My area has a
trunked system (Motorola 800 mhz) and I programmed it
just like my Pro 95 but when I hit scan it stops on the
control chanels and all I hear is noise. I've got my
talk groups programmed and have tried both "open" and
"closed" but it acts like a conventional scanner. I've
tried both normal and splinter but all it does is stop
on the control chanels. I don't know what else to try,
I expected to to work like my Pro 95 which is perfect.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Just to check, the freqs are in the proper "mode"? In this case MO mode, and the freq bank is also set to Motorola, correct? If this doesn't fix the problem then I'm at a miss as to the cause, but I'm sure that this forum will figure it out.

I know the bank is programmed in Motorola mode but I'm not sure if the individual frequencies are! Duuh!!! I'll check it as soon as I get home from work. I figured it must be something simple, I've never had a problem with my Pro 95.

Make sure every Freq in the bank is on MO, not FM. I'm sure you knew but ya never know!! :wink:

Only if it is part of the trunk system, you want your conventional freqs
to remain conventional.

Sorry I wasnt specific enough, thats what i meant. Personally I only do one trunked system by itself per bank. But then again I do live in a small city. OK to be quite honest I didnt know you could put conventional freq's (FM) in with a trunked system (MO)!!! You got me!!! Still a newbie but I'm learnin!! :lol:

Yep!! That's what it was, the frequencies were still FM, not MO. I feel stupid but now it works perfectly! Thanks to all for the help and new I guess the old Pro 95 becomes a backup scanner...

Had the same Pro 97 problem

I too had the same problem with my Pro 97 scanner. And I too upgraded from a Pro 95. Had to do exactly as you "Pros" suggested. Man, this scanner is AWESOME!

Has anyone tried CB search on their 97? I can't seem to get anything, yet I live only a couple of miles away from I-5 in Oregon--which is heavily traveled by truckers.

Sure like the fact that this scanner picks up Mil-Air and seems to be more sensative in picking up freqs. The only thing I don't like is the split volume/squelch knobs. Wish they had kept them seperate like on the 95.
All in all, my best scanner purchase, next to the Pro 95.

I sure enjoy the helpfulness found on these posts. Thanks to all of you who have provided helpful suggestions.

Hi Bruce,
If you hook a cb antenna to the scanner, the thing works like a champ.
But if you use the rubber duck antenna provided with the scanner, you
won't pick up much.
I live 100 yards off I-40 here in East Tennessee and unless the truckers
are with-in a half-mile or so, I won't hear a thing. But hooking a cb
antenna to it make a world of differance.

Just thought I would let you in on that,

press program, enter the bank, press trunk, and press mode until
you it reads motorola.
