Pro 97 setting up tones

I have a pro 97 scanner and I have programmed many frequencies that I scan all of the time. I have a tone programmed in for my fire dispatch frequency. I want to be able to scan but automatically receive the message if a call comes in. I want to do this because my pager is unreliable and I want a back up.

Do you mean PL/DPL tones or pager tones?

See pages 57-58 in the manual. Set your fire department frequency as the PRIority channel. and press the PRI button. Make sure that PRI and not pri appears on the screen. ANY traffic on that channel will interupt the other channels in your PRO 97. This only works when scanning CONVENTIONAL frequencies. Priority will NOT work with trunking. Again, this is on pages 57-58 of the PRO 97 manual.

This is NOT the same as having the pager activate by tones set off by your department. There are Uniden scanners that do this, however RS does not have one as of this date.

PL/CTCSS/DPL sub-audible tones are not the same as two or five tone signal used to activate tone activated receivers such as pagers.
