Pro-97 Squelch Knob Removal - Help!

PRO-197 GRE 600 Squelch Knob Removal - Help!

Has anyone removed the squelch knob of the Pro-197 or GRE 600? I am trying to remove the face place and cannot get the squelch knob removed. The volume knob pulled off no problem. However, I cannot seem to pull the squelch off. What am I missing?

I have never needed to take mine off, but that type of knob should just pop off the shaft. Can I ask why you want to remove it?

I have a new faceplate to put on the scanner as the top of mine is all scratched / chipped

I see. Yeah, I've never needed to remove mine yet, but that style on knob usually just slides off unless there's something special about it.
I have tried in the past to get a service manual with no luck.

I was able to remove the Squelch knob following instructions from user pro92b. He had me wrap some dental floss under the knob and pull until the knob came off. Thanks again to a great forum and user community.
