I have a Pro-97 scanner. It's programmed (was cloned for me) for Tacoma and other 800 freqs. I have the freqs and talk groups for Puyallup. I put them in according to the manual (very confusing manual) and help from someone who knew a little. I dont' believe the talk groups are in correctly because I keep getting this thing that sounds like a data channel or scanner block noise. I do hear them talking, but this noise keeps popping in. Lockout does no good because eventually it comes on all channels and then you have nothing to listen to. I have looked thru all kinds of forums here but am still confused.

Do I need to use the Fleet Map with the Motorola II Smartzone. If so, what Fleet Map do you use?

Does anyone know anyone in the Puyallup area that knows how to program this scanner manually and would be willing to help me? I've been at this ever since Puyallup went to 800 and it's getting very frustrating.

Thanks much!

You don't need a fleet map with a Moto Type II system.
It sounds as if the freqs may be programmed as non-trunked conventional freqs (FM); they should be pgmd as MOT.
Do you have WIN-97? This software package will help you immensely once you have the data to program into your radio. You can get a 30-day demo at http://www.starrsoft.com, and after that I believe the cost is $30. Well worth it.
If you get WIN-97, someone on this list may have a file to send to you, or you can read what's in your radio, and I can look at what you have programmed and let you know.
Good luck!

He does, and should look at getting win97 and the usb cable. to program it, you will need a window PC for win97 the usb cable and you will have it up and running in no time at all.

Are you locking out a TG or frequency?

I agree that the PRO-97 user's manual is horrible. You state that you get what sounds like a data channel and you lock it out. Are you locking out a talk group or a frequency???I have been reporting a bug on the PRO-92, PRO-93, PRO-95 & PRO-97 for years .. where the scanner will stop on the active control channel and unmute the squelch. This sounds exactly like what you are experiencing. It happens when you press certain keys on the scanner while scanning. The scanner 'forgets' which frequency is the active control channel. Usually simply pressing SCAN will correct the condition. Otherwise you have to power cycle the scanner. To lock out a talk group, all you want to do is press L_OUT WHILE the scanner is stopped on that TG. If you should for example, press MAN, before pressing L_OUT then you are locking out the frequency and not the TG. If you were only locking out TGs, then the only way I can see you ending up with "nothing to listen to" is if all TGs are sooner or later digital. But it sounds like you are locking out the control channel frequency, which, in effect, locks out an entire TRS.
