Hello,
I just picked up a Pro-97 and started programming it. So far it seems to work well but I am really struggling with programming it for Trunking. In my Local area I have found the Frequencies and the Sys type (Motorola Type II) and a List of Group IDs. I successfully programmed in the Frequencies (I think) and I can hear traffic, but I don't see any other information. The list I have consists of 11 Freqs and a LOT of Group IDs. I plugged some of the Group Ids into my 97 but they never show. I don't know if I've done this wrong or not. I'm also confused about the Sub Banks and also the Control channel. The Manual, for me, as absolutly useless! Is there a document I can grab that shows me what info I need for a Type II system and what I DON'T need?? Also an Example of how to enter it Would be nice. I'm in the process of putting together a Cheat sheet of the most common functions, something that can be laminated and carried with the Scanner if anyone is interested. Maybe I'm having a "Senior Moment" here but this is not easy :) Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

It would help if you gave a little information, such as what system, or City County and State.

Sorry, I'm trying to Listen to a Motorola Type II system with the frequencies for Northern Utah (Weber County) I found one list that shows the Control Freq of 868.9875... But I don't know what to do with it. I have plugged in with the other 10 Frequesncies and I hear traffic on the other 10 freqs, but on the one I just listed it sounds like just Data (Not surprising for a control channel ;-)) But if I put it in a Bank with the other frquencies it obviously stops the scan with the data noise which you can't squelch out. I made sure I am set to Motorola for this frequency and interestingly enough I do see the ID info at the bottom of my display change with the correct ID info I had entered into the ID channels, which cycles through with other messages like "SYS-7202" and "99%" which I have no idea what they mean. I know I've done something wrong, I shouldn't hear the Data. I'm sure this is a rookie issue, THANKS for your help!

You need to set the bank to MOT along with the control channel freq to MOT. I don't know how to do it by hand, have only done the PRO97 with Win97 software. You should only need the one freq 868.9875. The scanner only uses the CC on a MOT system, not the voice channels. If you set both the bank and channel to MOT you won't hear the Control Channel data, but the radio will follow the data on it, and switch to the correct voice channel when there is traffic.

Thanks! - It works!

Now it seems to be working great. It all seems so simple now, but the manual really threw me off. Thanks again!!

It's gets easier if you get Win97 software and can look at what you are programing.
Good luck and welcome to the site. :)

Thanks everyone for your help! Win97?? --WOW-- That's all I can say, for a little Application it is incredible! For other Newbies like me, Win97 is a MUST HAVE Utility! Watching what was happening in Win97, then programming my Scanner I'm figuring out what buttons to push to get the results I want...

Thanks again, all!!

I just bought a Pro-97, too. The RadioShack rep programmed the unit for me using ScanLite. All I had to do was load it with batteries and turn it on.

I downloaded Win97, but it got too late last night for me to understand what I was looking at.

I agree that the manual for this thing makes for a steep learning curve.
