Pro 97

hello group, I just picked up a 97 and its my first scanner in 10 years
I do not have a PC cable for it, nor any software. I've been scouring the Net for hours, Tons of info, Very confused.
I did download the R/S manual, I need all the help I can get. I think I found my local Police Freq.
on the RR database, Have not a clue on how to program it, Scanner does not have much already programmed, But The guy I got it from, has a personalized Start up screen on it with his name.

How do I get that off?


I'll figure out how to program it sooner or later. Cannot afford any cables or software, right now,

PRO-97 programming

When I got my first PRO-97, I too programmed all 1000 frequencies and over 300 TGs (plus alpha tags) by hand. It is certainly a great way to learn how to program - kind of like learning to drive with a manual transmission.

I imagine that the screen you want to change is the sign on screen. To change it, go to MAN mode, press PGM FUNC TEXT. It will display the current 1st line. You can edit if you want, press ENTER. It will advance to the 2nd line. There are 4 lines of text to see/edit.

Ok, thanks, I got the message removed,
Next onto the programming, I think I found the Local Police Dept, freq's they are up in the hi 850's range
which is really all I want to use this Scanner for , But I am not sure what type of system it is, I know it is not digital. I just need to get these programmed in .

Ok here is what I,ve just learned from the r/r database
Baytown Texas:

Southeast Texas Area Radio Network (STARNET) Motorola

Motorola Type II
Smartzone

APCO 25

the freq's start at 866 and go up to 868

looks like about 15 or so

What else do I need to know to program the Pro 97?
