Welcome to Radio Reference!

We could better help you if we knew your location, what type of system you are trying to monitor, and the specifics on what you have programmed in.

Since you mention talk groups, I am assuming it is a trunked system (probably Motorola Type II). If that is the case, be sure you have the bank set to MO, program in the control channels, and set each channel to MO. At that point you should hear all traffic on the system. In order to hear only certain talk groups, you would need to program those in (PGM, Trunk) and set the bank to Closed Mode (FUNC, period key).

I’m not sure I’ve answered your question, but I hope this helps. If not, please give us more specifics on exactly which system you want to hear so that we can help you get going!

mrfixitdough,

Try the following this is from pg. 76 of the PRO-97 manual:

talk group ID hold
You can set your scanner to follow a trunking signal that you
want to track during scanning. While the scanner is stopped
on a voice channel (
VC appears), hold down TRUNK until ID
hold ON
. appears.
When ID hold is activated and the scanner receives a voice
channel, the scan indication
S at the fi rst digit in the top line
changes to
H.

To release ID hold, press
SCAN or TRUNK.

I think PSE will only work on conventional frequencies and the above method will work on your trunked systems.

Good Luck & Good Listening....

Thanks for the help. I'm in West Palm Beach and am trying to listen to Police (Motorola). I have it locked on a channel set to MO. Everytime I hear a transmission I see a number by MO (for instance MOT: 12345). Is that the talk group ID?

I try to lock it in by holding 'TRUNK' but it only saves the id (S doesnt change to H like 'kcoleman' mention). How do I access that id, or simply hold it on that id?

Thanks (my friend is typing this so excuse the change in grammar :p).

Yes. At the bottom of your display it shows “MOT:” followed by the talk group ID number.

To lock in on a talk group ID, you hold in the Trunk button until you hear one beep. You will see “ID Hold On”. After that the message changes to “ID Hold Mode”. Press Scan to release the ID.
