OK. Lately my pro-97 hasnt been working as well as I want it to. I bought a 800 mhz antenna from radio shack hoping to improve reception, so far it seems to work a little. But a lot of the time when recieving voice signals, there is a buzzing sound, sometimes light, other times heavy.

IMPORTANT:

sorry Im still working on the video I promised yall. , and YES, I have read my private messages. Take care and God bless

But it IS recieving good right? No chance the BNC may be broken on the inside? Although it is a rare occurance, it does happen to people.

When you move the scanner around, does the buzz change? Like if you moved to another room in your house, will the buzz go away, or do you hear it all over the house?

You may not have a scanner issue, you may have in interference issue with an appliance inside your home, or something outside making the buzz..

A movie would be sweet!

Yes, If I move it the buzzing can get worse or better. I have dropped it 3 times. On tile (2) and on concrete. Can I fix the BNC? or do I need to order something from radioshack? Thanks

Ouch!!

Well, considering the buzzing sound changes.. That means it's something coming through the air. If it was a scanner malfuntion, then the sound would stay the same, no matter where you moved the scanner.

Does the scanner recieve NWS Weather Radio ok? If it does, then the BNC isn't broken inside.

Ok, now try removing the antenna when you hear the buzz again. If the buzz goes away, it IS indeed being recieved from the air, and there's nothing wrong witht he scanner.

Trying these things may sound stupid and like a waste of time, but doing a few simple tests of your own will help you diagnose the problem.

Once you eliminate the possibility your scanner is malfuntioning, then you can get to work on the meat and potatoes. If your scanner seems to be working as it should, it's now time to figure out what's making the buzz. Sad to say, the easy part is over with for now. Actually tracking down, and figuring out what's going on is going to be difficult, but, if you want to listen to that trunked system bad enough, it's worth it. :)

So do those little tests and report back to us your findings. :)

Its not the BNC connector and I can recieve Weather loud and clear, I think its the signal it self. The units are VERY low volume, but dispatch is loud and clear, I just installed the radio shack 800 mzH attena , Do you have any tips to help make the units sound louder or get better reception? Thanks and God bless

If dispatch is loud and clear and the units are very low it's more of a problem with the users and their system and they might not even notice this if there radios are always turned up high. Depts. around here have that problem but sometimes its not happening and everything is fine. It's not a problem with my scanners though. It happens and I don't like it but I'm not going to call them up and tell everyone one to speak into the mic a little more. I can hear the call now.....ALL UNITS, ALL UNITS....

I had the exact same issue and was told that it was one of two things. Either your area is converting to a digital system or you need to change your batteries. A fresh set of AA's and I was back in business!
