Hello all,

I noticed the RS PRO-97 is only 149 at RS until the 15th. I have been considering picking up a handheld to monitor the Orange County Trunked system. I had been thinking about the Uniden 246 but this is almost 100 bucks cheaper. It is indicated that the PRO-97 will not support rebanding. is this an Issue in the foreseeable future in orange county. Also, are there any other things i need to consider (in regards to using the PRO-97 in Orange County)before taking the plunge?

Isn't Orange Co. entirely encrypted, except for a few talkgroups? If so, no scanner can be used.

Mostly law enforcement and a couple other talkgroups. Fire is all analogue and clear except for the arson investigators. Orange County will probably be affected by rebranding but who knows as to when it will happen. In your position I would shell out the extra cash and invest in a digital scanner that can be upgraded, because it will save you money down the road. Good luck.
