Are all scanners as difficult to use as the Pro99 or is it just me ?

You need to go here and get WIN99. http://www.starrsoft.com/software/win99/default.asp
It will be so much easier to program. The 99 is a good scanner for its price. You just have watch which buttons you press sometimes. It is easy to switch it from Channels to Car. Once you get used to changing it back it is not so bad.

I agree you need the software. My wife and I love our Pro-99s.Best value for the money.
I found mine pretty easy to program by the keypad. All it takes is a little reading of the manual.
