Pro-99 Vs the others

Ok since I am a Uniden Man I will keep this as short as possible. I saw a Pro-99 in a local Radio Shack store today, looked good sound good on the NOAA radio band.

I know this scanner will not trunk, not an issue since I have a 796D, I would use this for a Air band scanner and some misc local stuff that does not need APCO or Trunked.



:arrow: I know it will hook up to a computer for programming but is there free software for it on the net?

:arrow: Is the sound pretty good in a loud area?

:arrow: Anyone have comments on the ability of the radio?

:arrow: Anyone wanna get rid of one by chance? for say 125 bucks?

1) Yes there is WIN99 by Mr.Star. Not free but like $15.00 and worth it.
2.) It is good I have used it on the engine and that is a loud place.
3.) I think the 99 is a very good radio that gets over looked because it is a "Race" scanner, I do not know of any race teams the PL tones and that to me is a nice high end feature that you get in the late Pro-92 or the $500 Pro-96/2096.
4.) No, With Nascar season comming up soon keep an eye on it might go an sale soon.
5.) I do not know the 99 is a GRE unit.

I just picked one up for $129 new from RS and am extremely happy with it. I could have spent more to get a few more features, but all I wanted it for was conventional systems and alpha tagging. Everything else is gravy since I have other radios for more specific reasons.

I'm not a big race fan, so I'm looking into re-purposing some of the race-specific functions. Fortunately you can alternate between race mode and conventional mode.

It fits into a unique price/performance niche, but I'm very pleased. No need for me to spend more on what was intended to be a beater - although now I'm so happy with it, I'll probably treat it nice.

I bought one for my 8 y/o son for Christmas. I picked it up out of the forums here for around $50 (I think). He listens to it all the time. The audio is good on the scanner. It performs excellent on VHF-High. It will blow away my BCD396T, BC246T (sold now), Pro-2051, and Pro-2052 using only the duckie. I am very impressed with it's sensitivity on VHF-High. Can't comment on any other items.

Just ordered one today.
I'm going to use it at the Martinsville race(woooo go Tony), sorry, in April.

If it doesn't perform it will be replaced by a sc230.

I'll also be putting a br330t thru it's paces there.
