• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

For those that have had problems using their Win7 64 bit machines with the Pro Series CPS, Motorola has released version R06.12.05. The release notes state that it specifically addresses the Win7 64 bit issue.

I am away from the office for another day and have not had a chance to install and test it with a USB adapter out to the ribless programming cable so any feedback from those that have had a chance to give it a try would be very welcome.

If you have an MOL account and a current subscription to the Pro Series CPS, just log on. The release is right on the main screen under Product and Tech News. Just click on the line that says Professional Series CPS R06.12.05 and it will offer you the download right away.

A quick follow up: I just installed the new version on my laptop, and everything worked fine reading and writing to a CDM1250 using a generic USB to serial adapter with Motorola's ribless programming cable.

Wow! I'm still using r06.04 on a Win7 Ultimate 64 bit system and haven't had problem one. Guess sometimes the older stuff still works better!

version R06.12.05 question

I have heard rumors that this new version of the CPS only allows narrow band programming and not wide band. Is this true? Any help would be great.

Thanks,

You can always look into the zip file and read the release notes before installing. That will tell you what's new in the revision you have. IIRC, R06.12.05 was the one that fixed the WIN 7 issues so it was likely a later revision. I looked into R06.12.08 and it definitely says 12.5 only.

You can log into your MOL account, take a short course on narrowbanding, and then ask for the Entitlement ID for the Pro Series. There's no charge for any of this, just a couple of very small hoops to jump through

Once you have the EID, you can program wide and narrowband as needed using the newer/newest revisions.

06.12.05 will both work on x64 and will allow 25khz programming.

06.12.08 was the first edition that required 12.5khz programming.
