I heard that the local area sherriffs were changing radio systems and old scanners are no longer able to pick up signals. I need to buy a scanner and sometimes I will need to hear sherriffs does this recent change mean a trunking unit will pick it up or are they now changing so that truncking units dont pick up signals. Other words will I be able to receve most all law enforcement signal with the PRO 95 or 94? THANKS

First you need to tell us where you at before we can tell you if there is a radio that will pick them up.

I am in Eastern Nebraska in omaha area, do trunking radios fail to scan a lot of newer systems? Or is it a pretty safe bet that it can pick up law enforcement agencies?

What county is that and what agency are you wanting to monitor? All of this info is needed to determine what radio you will need.

No and since you cannot seem to answer a couple simple questions then I am done wasting my time with this thread.

The Radio Shack Pro-96 and Bearcat APCO scanners (BC-396?) will scan the most systems that can be scanned. Some agencies use systems that can't be scanned. You can look up your county here http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&stid=31 and see what kind of system they use, then see if the particular scanner you like will scan that type of system.

Or you can post your county here, and someone will look and tell you.

Actually, the Uniden BC296D (and upcoming BCD396T) have that distinction all to themselves. They scan LTR - the PRO-96 does not. They also support SNFM while the PRO-96 does not. Yes, the 96 supports the steps for SNFM, but not the mode. The PRO-96 only has one FM mode.

While I love my PRO-96, the Uniden models mentioned support more modes. WFM is another mode the '96 lacks but the Unidens have (at least the 396 will - I think the 296 has it, too).

Omaha/Douglas County are P-25 Standard, a Pro-96 or the Unidens mentioned would work. I have a Pro-96 and have been using it to map the new system here in Arkansas, AWIN, and have enjoyed it's ability.
