When listening to Illinois StarCom 21 on a PRO-106 the audio is usually garbled, choppy and unreadable. Occasionally, though, a transmission will be loud and clear. I have programmed in site 1-013 (Will Co. simulcast) with a half dozen or so talk groups. I am set for P25 Auto, the 3 appropriate control freqs and Multi site STAT. The same talkgroup and frequency may be garbled on one transmission and clear on another. I am located about 6 miles from District 5 headquarters, and the signal strength is very good. What am I doing wrong?

Set for ROAM and turn on DSP.
Also BECAUSE you're so close there is sometimes an issue with multipath, so try relocating the radio and/or the antenna.
I am 3 miles from the site 2-29.

Do a search on "simulcast distortion". My 106 does this when I go to Naperville and listen to the Elgin and Will Co. sites.......Roninjoliet is very knowledgeable about this topic....

Welcome to radio.

You oughta hear what it sounds like on genuine Starcom radios. It may not be a problem on your end.
