PRO106 help

It was recommended I ask this here, My wife's old Bearcat no longer does much so I bought her a RS PRO106. I did read a lot of the reviews and was warned about how complicated programming was. They sure didn't lie. Anyway I looked at that Win500 and got even more confused. Just for now I would like to set it up to monitor just local police and fire department. I think I got that part working OK by enabling the VS4 program. Now I want to make sure that the state police is monitored when she turns it on. Is there a simple way of doing this? Also her firmware is at 1.7 (cpu) and I see that 1.8 is out. How important is this upgrade? I sure would appreciate any help on these matters. BTW, I am in Chesapeake, Va if it makes any difference. Thank you.

There is no really simple way if you program it by hand unfortunately it is time consuming that's why most people get the software.

To get the update you will need to get the usb cable/cd from Radioshack 20-546. this cable now comes with ARC500 software and is on the r/s website for $34.99


This helps upgrade the firmare to 1.8 and DSP app to 1.4
Also you will be able to hear agencies that can patch to each other which is pretty cool. Also helps get rid of mirror images. Any upgrade is good.

It's entirely up to you.

Thanks for the reply. I was planning on getting that cable tomorrow along with the 800 mhz antenna. I'm glad to hear that cable comes with the ARC500 software. For that price it should include for than some wire. LOL

Hi shipmate, from AOC retired in 1978. Win500 is better software then Butel for GRE and GRE made Radio Shack scanners.

I live in northeast Suffolk and in mid 60's for nearly a year lived off Deep Creek Blvd near Victory.

Use this WIN500 - UtahRadio for setting software up.

I can share a VA STARS Win500 (p500) file which includes all area police and fire systems and the new interop ORION 764 MHz P25 system.

BTW, I have this same setup in PSREdit, Butel ARC500 and ScanControl as well.

In mean time a 1 page programming shortcut can be found below my signature.
