While i was taking it apart to look inside, i dropped and the black wire from the speaker got disconnected, and the volume knob broke off. Now i cant receive any transmissions even when i have a set of headphones plugged in. Is this fixable by sending it into the manufacturer???

Might as well chalk it up to a learning experience and take a ride to Scannermaster for an early Christmas present for yourself.

Likely no. You need to have Radio Shack repair their branded units.

To clarify this point, I believe the "no" is in reference to sending it to GRE for repairs (the manufacturer).

From what I hear, you should be able to walk into a RadioShack and ask them to send it to the RadioShack repair facility for $20 (or something close to that amount) which pays for shipping and towards the needed repairs. There most likely will be additional costs for the actual repair. I've heard mixed differing results from this though so you might want to wait for someone who has gone through the process to comment.

Why did you want to open it, in the first place??
