I was told today by my local RadioShack manager (who's also a ham.....suprisingly someone at RS who knows radios!) and was told that the Pro-2055 was discontinued due to excessive display problems.

Anyone else hear this?

I checked two or three days ago, and it was NOT discontinued, just out of stock at the warehouse.

Just an FYI, the PRO 2055 is back in stock online, instores (well some stores) and in the warehouse orderable if your local store doesn't have any.

i think the 2055/97 is alot better then the 2096/96 at least i like it better i think it sound better
I must say I can not tell much difference in the audio between my 2096 & 2055, both have a good tone and super loud if you so desire it to be. It may well be true with the 97, for I do not own one just the 96.......

Am I wrong or is the Pro2055 NOT APCO/EDACS capable?
Here, Travis Co. TX that's critical.
(If it won't do APCO or EDACS it's damn near useless to me...)

All audio off RS scanners here, 2 , is excellent. A Uniden and a GRE model are what I'm referring to, 91 and 96.)

The 2055 won't do APCO. Its is a $150.00 scanner but I think it does a good job with the conventional (non-digital) freqs. That's if the display does not go out. My sister in Austin just had to sell her old trusty PRO-70 because Travis County went digital. The digital scanners are a bit too pricey for her now.
