RHello all. Forgive me if this has been asked before. I searched but didn't really find anything. As I said in the description, I have a Pro652. I have subscribed to Radio Reference. I bought a 20-546 FTDI cable from BlueMax49ers. I have a fairly new HP laptop running Windows 10 Home. The drivers loaded just fine from Windows when I plugged the cable into the laptop USB port. When I check Device Manager the cable show up on Com Port 3. I have an eval copy of ARC500 on the laptop. I have the cable plugged into the PCIF port on the scanner. I can bring up ARC500, download a Trunk system (Indianapolis Dept of Public Safety), make my selections. Import system. Info shows up in ARC500. Now, here is the problem, I choose Upload to Scanner, no errors come up, the red and green lights on the cable flash on and off and the progress bar scrolls across and says it loads 100%. BUT nothing happens on the scanner, no activity (no uploading activity) and nothing shows up in ANY list (1 is the default). Turn scanner off and back on, nothing. I have been trying to figure this out but it has me flummoxed. Any ideas folk? Thanks.

Are you plugged into the PC/IF jack and not the headphone jack and is the cable fully seated? Also, do not use the short mono adapter cable if that is on the end of your cable. Is Cable Type 2 checked in the Upload window?

Was the scanner in a normal receive mode or in a menu? It should be scanning. Arc500 detects com3 when the programming cable is plugged in. The software shows the file uploading and the lights flash on the cable even if there is no scanner connected. In the Upload to Scanner window, is the box checked for cable type 2? While uploading, the scanner display should show the percentage of file loaded.

Yes, it is in scan mode. Yes, cable type 2 checked. Scanner display only shows scanning not upload activity.

If you know someone else with a cable you can borrow, I would suggest swapping cables. There could be a broken wire. Where did you buy the scanner? It is possible that it has a problem and that is why it was for sale. Have you tried programming the scanner before? Is there anything else in the scanner that you are monitoring? You could try resetting the scanner. Turn the scanner off. Turn the scanner on. At the welcome screen, press and release 0 and then press and release 1. That will erase the working memory and reset all global settings to factory defaults.

Just for a test , program a memory or 2 by the front panel , then read from the scanner and see if there is anything in ARC500

I bought a 20-546 FTDI cable from BlueMax49ers.

I bought that same cable a few years ago and it didn't work. I attempted to contact the seller, and he stopped replying. I ended up doing a Amazon return to force him to take it back. I ended up finding the real Radio Shack cable online and life was good. The real Radio Shack cable was kind of hard to find, but they are out there. Just some food for thought. It may just be a bum cable.

I bought the scanner new a few years ago. I am able to manually program it. I did try and download the 2 systems I put into it manually to ARC500. Nothing happened at all. So, I'm guessing Chronic is correct. Have to see if I can find a real RS cable. Thanks for the relies.
