The WS-1095 would be a more-or-less equal base/mobile version. It like the 1080 has been discontinued. The new models, WS-1088/1098 have full numeric keypads, which is the only difference...the same FW is used, 1080 & 1088, as well as the 1095/1098 which have their unique version.
If you do the upgrade, you would use the 1080/1088 version of E-Z Scan. It's pretty identical to iScan and works the same way, including checking for updates whenever you open it unless you choose the option to not do that. You could download it from the Whistler site and see how it works. If you're comfortable with iScan, you'll be right at home with E-Z Scan.
For what it's worth, my 668 was pretty much of a dud with the RS FW & DSP. The upgrade was well worth it for me, it performs much better now. And it decodes DMR as well, so if you have any of that in your area you might find it handy. I also have both a 1095 and a 1098 and they work very well for me too.
