says clone on scanner
hit upload to computer says timed out
i think its plugged into comm1 whatever the cord size plugs into?

What cable are you using? It's either the wrong cable or you have the wrong com port selected. If you got the cable from radio shack then it HAS to be the 20-289 cable. The black radio shack cable will NOT work.

Then you need to find out what com port you have selected in win93 and what one you are plugged into on the computer.

Look for a thing that says something like "IOIO 1" an "IOIO 2", I believe that is how serial ports are labeled on newer computers.

That means COM 1, there's not reason it shouldn't work. Maybe Windows changed it, check the Device Manager.

What does the 'tip' of the cable end that plugs into the scanner look like?

How many black rings are on the chrome part? It needs to be a 'mono' plug..you may be using a cable with a 'stereo' end. The programming cable for my Yaesu VX1 has a stereo end and I use a stereo-to-mono adapter to make it work.

One black ring=mono
two black rings=stereo

If your cable has a stereo tip on it, then you'll need this adapter or similar.

ive used it to program my 93 and 96 before when i had a night job
no i dont understand the problem with this friends computer

I think I have a possible answer for you. I saw the "Timed Out" message when I clicked on "upload to scanner" and "download from scanner" after I interrupted an in-progress upload. What I had to do was first manually program a frequency into bank 1, channel 00, and then I hit the scan button and reconnected the cable. I was only then allowed to upload the file to the scanner. It seems that with the pro 93 if you interrupt an upload or download it erases every thing you have programmed into the scanner.
