Pro95 V Pro96 Software (Win95/Win96)

I was just about to purchase Don Star's Pro96 software (Win96) and noticed that it is not backward compatible with the Pro95 (Win95).
I like the import from web feature of the Win96 but there is nothing like that in the Win95 program. Is Win95 not being supported anymore? There is quite a few of these scanners still out there and they are only three years old and still on the shelf at Radio Shack. I am not planning on buying a Pro96 just for the convenience of Win96's nice features. Is there any way of converting the saved data from a Win96 import to a Win95 format? This would save me quite a bit of keystrokes programming my Pro95 or entering the info into Win95. I noticed the convert program is upward compatible but not backward compatible. Don if you’re reading any of this I'm willing to pay the money for a Win95 update that has the import features of the Win96. Any suggestions out there, besides manually plugging all the info into the Pro95 or the Win95 program? I guess I'm getting old and the eyes are not as good as they used to be, so simplicity of programming would be nice.

Fear not,though I can't find it, Don recently posted info which will be of use to all Winxx users. As I recall, he is going to discontinue support for the Winxx converter and make the Export/Import CSV feature exchangeable ( with minor editing) between the Winxx programs. Win96 is near completion and will be followed by the others in the near future.

In the mean time, you can open an active Win96 file and a new template Win95 file and copy the freq listing in bank 0 to bank 0 in Win95. Then copy the TG's over the same way. Select the other banks and do each the same.

I have been using Excel for several years as a deposit point for data, then manipulate the columns for various scanners using copy/paste.

After reading your post a couple of times I think what you are saying is that you want to buy the Win96 Software just to get the Web Import feature? I think you don't own a Pro-96. Heck, after reading your post, I am not sure you own a Pro-95.

I think you have to consider that the Win92/93/95 programs are all a no cost item. Don's support for them has always been pretty good considering he wasn't getting anything for them (well hardly anything). The Win96 software on the other hand is a commercial product and therefore supported quite well. If he does recode the CSV import/export routines for all of the Winxx products that would be a real benefit, but I still wouldn't buy a software product for a radio I didn't own just to get the Web Import feature, and I suspect he will never add that feature to the no-cost Winxx software.

He might. It would be pretty trivial to do it (since the code's already written), it would just be time-consuming. If / when I can find the time to spend on it, I'll add the RR Web Import to the other 3 apps - probably at the same time I add the CSV import/export.

I don't own a Pro96 yet. I'm working on that. At this time I own a Pro95.
Sorry I did not reply quicker with a clearer explanation on what I had here. It has been a very long three weeks. Been wiring a production truck for a client and so far pulled over 4000 feet of video cable with over 600 BNC connections. Haven't gotten to the 6000 plus feet of audio yet with 2760 punchdowns yet. So if I did not make any sense with my main post, sorry. Besides going blind, balder, a bit of drool along with my now slurred speech with this job, I have been freezing my arse off here in the process. :shock:
