pro96 question

Hi, I have a question about my pro96 reception. In the ham bands the squelch opens but theres nothing there but static and in the 800 band I get a lot of buzzin noises. I'm just wondering if it could be the antenna, i'm using the radio shack extendable whip. any help would be appreciated. thanks Darren

The "buzzin noises" you are hearing is either digital/encrypted communications or control channels for trunked radio systems.

As with all GRE/Radio Shack scanners they do NOT like too much antenna. Radio Shack must give big bonus money to anyone that sells that telescope antenna to a scannist. You actually may do better with less antenna. I'm in a STRONG signal area. I use a 3" 1/4wave 800MHz duck on my 96. Since it is a stright element rather than a coil it works great on all bands.

Might I suggest you just put the stock antenna back on the radio.
