I purchased this Pro96 scanner about 3wks ago and have one week left to decide to keep it or return it. My concern is laying out as much money as it is only to hear that CSP as well as other PD's are going encrypted. (I have noticed alot of what I think is encrypted on Troup A). I live in the Bethel area.

Also read along the way that rumor has it that a newer model MIGHT be coming out soon?

Thanks...opinions welcome as I am new to scanning and fear I might be owning a dinosaur?

thanks bc3

If you cant get NH HRTFD or WTBY ther isnt much else in your area and Ide get a pro-97 for fire, med and mobile scanning and save some money. The pro-96 is not a dino but is an overkill for your area IMO. i DIDNT KNOW csp WERE GOING ENCRYPTED AND THUS MAY HOLD MY PURCHASE OF A DIGITAL SCANNER. Caps not yelling.

If you have noticed additional encrypted coms in Troop A, why not update the database page to indicate which talkgroops are encrypted. Only Secure ID 0 is listed so. A few Statewide (NARCS etc) are listed as encrypted.

And every time you read this rumor, one or more disputed such rumor.

The Pro-96 is one month from 3 years old, but continues to monitor nearly all unencrypted public safety coms in this country. There are many people with this scanner in Jax FL, which is totally encrypted for Sheriff and PD talkgroups, however, the Fire/EMS is digital but unencrypted.

Having supported the 96 with my answers, if State PD is actually going encrypted, then you really don't need this scanner, and the Pro-97 is $250.00 cheaper. You still aught to note what talkgroups are encrypted and submit this info to the database admins on the CSP page.
