I use a Whistler TRX-2 to decode my local P25 system's control channels for about a week when decoding became erratic and stopped.
I use a generic USB cable to connect the scanner to my Windows 10 laptop. I located the COM port's event log and found the (attached) message of incomplete installation after removing the device and rebooting to reload the driver. The generic USB cable works fine with Whistler's software.
Do I need a different cable or driver?

Might be a non-signed driver issue. Microsoft security is pretty strict.

I unstalled unsigned drivers but the incomplete installation message persists and PRO96COM will not decode.
Also, Whister's Control Demo works fine with the same drivers. Other ideas?

I had a similar issue - I think I had a bad alpha tag in my talkgroups.txt or radios.txt file. I moved the two to a different directory and my problem went away.

I ironed this issue over the winter. I haven’t used the Whistler since then, If it acts up again I’ll post to this thread.
