for some odd reason, I most likely hit a button but, mine can do that. It's power save mode, thats what the display says, when you turn it on, it counts down than find out how to enable that and it should work...
"Your scanner features a power save circuit that is automatically activated after about 30 seconds if you have manually select a channel. The power save mode works by allowing the receiver to 'sleep' briefly while waiting for a call on the selected channel and will also turn the backlight off. The power save circuit is disabled when the scanner is tuned to a channel in program mode, scanning, or searching." (Easier to read Pro-97/2055 Scanner Manual.) > http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/97/97.html#contents <

OK How do you get it to activate?

I can't seem to get mine to do this. I even took it off AC to see if the power saver only works during DC operation. Still no luck.

The light does not go out when you are holding on a channel? Its either on or off while scanning, power save only happens while you are holding on a freq or talkgroup.

Press and hold LIT to turn the light on. Press MAN and select the desired channel. Wait. After there is no communication on that channel for a while, the scanner will go into power save and the light will go out. When there is a conversation, the light will come back on.

The manula says - power save circuit is disabled when the scanner is tuned to a channel in program mode, scanning, or searching." (Easier to read Pro-97/2055 Scanner Manual

I guess I was reading that line wrong. It can be read one of two ways.
