I received Upman's Update yesterday morning on the Firmware upgrades to be released.
Since then I have received over 300 of the same message and they keep coming at a rate
of two every ten minutes. There is a problem somewhere in their system that is filling my inbox. At this point if it does not stop soon I'll have carpal tunnel from having to constantly hit the "delete" key. I have sent a message off to "webmaster@uniden.com", so I thought I try this route too, to cover all the bases.

Has anyone else experienced this?
I appreciate the updates, but one message was enough.

Uniden Update Message

I only got one also. Either you have a few hundred scanners registered with them or someone there loves you.

Its more likely its your email client than it is Unidens mail server. If you have access to your email via a web client, log in that way and delete the msg. The mail server you are connecting to retrieve mail, isnt getting the notification that you received the msg. This happens sometimes also if you have a msg with a large attachment sitting idle in your box on the mail server itself. Your client seems to be timing out while retrieving the msg, thus re-trying to check mail and pulling down the same msgs over and over again because it doesnt recognize it as being received on your end.

You nailed it. Thanks for the insight. Problem solved!
I'll remember this for next time it happens.

Is the mail server resending the same message with the same header and time info or is it retransmitting it?

I ask this because about six years ago, I made a rental car reservation with Avis and I got over 500 confirmations over the next three days. :( They were all different times and message IDs. So it seemed to me they were coming from Avis.

I wish I'd known that trick then.

In your case, that trick would not have worked. When you use POP3 for email retrieval, the server isn't informed to delete the messages until all of them have been downloaded. If you have 50 messages and retrieval times out on #25 repeatedly (usually because of its size), you'll keep downloading messages 1-24 a gazillion times until you do what shaft said and log in via webmail and take care of the problematic message. In that instance, the message headers would be the same each time it is downloaded. Once all of the available messages are downloaded, the mail server is then told by the email client to delete the messages on the server.

In your case, it was a flaw in Avis' system that kept sending out the same message x # of times from the source.

Your welcome, glad it worked for ya!

That sounds about right, the trick I described earlier used to be a common problem with slower connections (not saying Mark has one) and large file attachments. Been a while since I've admin'd a mail server, but this was a common fix. At least now a days there is web access to mail, back in the day I used to have to physically go thru the customers box on the mail server and delete the msg manually.

Glad this got resolved (and even happier that it wasn't something on our end). Just saw this and was about to "sic the dogs" on our IT group.

And here's our IT group's analysis:

This is a known problem with Charter.net internet servers. We believe it occurs when a user has forwarding set up in their internet account from their web based email account to a Blackberry device or other pop account. In the past, we believe we have helped users solve this problem by instructing them to log into their web based email client with their email account and delete the email from their web based email client.

I had the same issue happen to me back earlier this year back before the last firmware update came out in April.

The Blackberry Internet Service sent UPMan's email update of the upcoming firmware update to my Blackberry and for what ever reason kept sending it to my device every three minutes until I finally got onto my home computer and downloaded the email off my ISP's POP server.

However the above didn't happen with the last email that came out earlier this week.

And here's our IT group's analysis:

That wasn't the case here. I don't have any forwarding of the address I use,
nor was it a slow connection as I have Road Runner Turbo. For some odd
reason it hung up on that one message. Still its good knowing your IT guys
are there behind the scenes ready to tackle it.

Had the same thing with a plug-in with Spamnihilator that would notify me when a e-mail was rec'd even if Outlook Express wasn't open. Dropped the plugin and cured the problem.

bcd396t problem

I keep getting "registration key error !!"
Downloaded the "notes" and i'm following them; step for step.
Tried with dashes and without; and then with spaces.
Now; i'm pretty damned frustrated !

The Good Reload(s)!

The only issue that I had was that when I logged into the Uniden website, it showed that I had several scanners, none of which were mine. Cleaned that up and reregistered my units, got the key for both of the 996's, downloaded both the updater and firmware. I fired up both of the unit's with the L/O + 6 key combination depressed, selected the enable major version update, pasted the code that I had copied to the clipboard and downloaded the file @ 115200.

Both scanners reloaded flawlessly!

I will be testing it out on the Colorado DTRS, Denver ESK and Lakewood ESK systems over the next few day's. I suspect that it will be just as good as the reload.

Very GOOD Uniden!
Thank You UPMan!

Got up this morning & started from scratch. Went back to Unidens website & deleted "My Scanners" and reentered everything and redownloaded everything & recieved a new "Registration key". I stayed on Uniden's website, as i remembered haveing a problem on the last update i did and low & behold; everything updated "O.K." Upon initially registering, i left the website to print-off the "notes" (On another computer w/printer) and then came back to update and was met with nothing but problems. Now, that i did all of the above; we're good to go.
