Problem Communicating to EFJ5100 from MOTO

I am having trouble hearing conventional P25 SIMPLEX channels on EFJ5100s when talking from MOTO XTS or APX radios. If I depress the monitor button on the EFJ, the communication is heard.

The radios are programmed with the same RX and TX for FREQ, NAC, and DES codes/keys.

The firmware revision on the XTS is 05.05.03 (12.0.0)
The version of the EFJ is 2.8.15

Anyone else had a similar issue?

That resolved the problem - the MOTO does not force a TG ID when programming a conventional P25 channel and the XTS radios talked to one another fine.

The EFJ forced a TGID when programming P25 conventional and thus wouldnt break squelch until a TG was programmed into the MOTOs.

Not sure if I understand this. I've got some EFJ's that work fine with numerous different model Motorolas on digital simplexes with nothing additional in either program other than the same nac. Any other clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try programming the EFJ with TG 0x001 or 0xFFF. FFF is P25 standard for ALL_CALL and from looking at the P25 frames coming out of a Motorola this is what Moto use for the default TG field.

P25 Conventional systems can use talkgroups.

Talkgroup does not neccessarily equal trunking.
