Im having troble connecting my BC796D to my computer. I tried using the software it came with but it keeps bouncing back that there was a communication error and to check the settings. Ive already tried setting the scanner to all avalible baut rate modes on the scanner and on the computer making sure both matched each other. Ive also tried using a full trail version of the new 1.8 Proscan software still with no luck. Im using a serial cable that plugs up to the back of my scanner to connect the scanner to my computer. Anyone, please let me know if you have any thoughts or if you know what the problem is.

Thanks

I would upgrade the bundled software that came with the scanner for Butel ARC250 pro or basic. I'm running ARC250 pro with my BC785D and my BC250D with no problems. I couldn't get the bundled software to work with my scanners and my computer.

have you restarted your computer and run only the Uniden software?
And checked your device manager
just in case there is a conflict with another device

You have to get a null modem cable, went thru the same thing with a friend of mines scanner. If I remember right I picked one up at radio shack.

A null cable or modem adapter is not required on a 796 if you are just connecting to a computer. It is however required if you are cloning one 796 to another. The newer BCT15 & BCD996T do require a null adapter when using the rear panel connection to a computer. On your Uniden software try setting the refresh rate setting to 200ms.

IF your just using a serial cable that you had laying around it could be the culprit
