problem getting PC control of 796D

I am trying to reprogram my 796d using a laptop. I am having trouble gettting the computer to talk to the scanner and Vice versa. I have tried all baud rates. What delay time settings should I use? I have the software installed on the laptop and a cable connected. Kevin

Are you using a real serial port on the Computer or a USB<>Serial Port Converter? Open the device manager in Windows Control Panel to find out what the COM port number is for your device.
