If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok.

I sent off a pair of EF Johnson 5100 Model 2 W/AES encryption so my buddy can key load the radios for me.

He tried keyloading the radios using his Motorola KVL3000+ with a Motorola XTS KVL cable.

Every time he tries to keyload the radios,he get a KEYLOAD FAIL.

The radios are both model #242-5126-460-GZ4.

firmware:4.4.16

Is there a special mode in the software programming screen for this or does the EF Johnson uses a different KVL cable?

Thanks in advance.

the cable is different. There is a mod floating around the net on how to mod a moto cable to keyload.

I will have to look for my diagram. From what I recall the cable had an extra ground that shorted an extra side connector line to initiate keyload mode.

Used to be that a cable modified for the Johnson would still do Motorola. Anyone know if that is still true? That would keep you from having to buy another cable, just modify the Motorola one.
