problem monitoring an agency using edacs system.

I need some help. I am trying to listen to an agency that uses the EDACS system. Radioshack scanners haven't worked, so i bought an ericsson radio from the agency itself and still can't pick them up. I am 56 miles from the agency and have an 800mghz antannae about 50 feet up in the air, but it is not pointed directly at the agency. Am i just too far away to receive them or do i need to direct the antannae at the agency.

2. Where do you live. This will allow us to recommend a scanner for you to pick up the system.

3. And its just a nitpick. But the word is spelled antenna.

The "not directly" may be causing a problem. Some directional antenna designs have deep nulls not far off the front, so the agency may be in one of those nulls.

Also, 56 miles is quite a distance - depending on terrain, transmitter power, transmitting antenna height, it might just be not doable.
