• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I had something messed up with a scan list. When I was on a mode w/o scan on it worked fine (it an rx only mode). When I turned scan on the radio shut off. This happened with other modes with the same scanlist. I never enabled scan while on the modes. Now when the radio turns on it will not get past the self test. It shuts off right away cause it power up on a mode with the bad scan list and scan is enabled.
Is there a way that I can reset the radio or get it to power up on the home mode so it will stop cycling on and off?

Only thing you can do is hook up to a computer and reprogram, but i have never seen a scanlist problem reset a radio, usually it just says an error message on the screen.

Read, edit, write, move on...

it sounds more like a corrupted codeplug rather than a scan issue. To get past the cycling you may have to hook up the programming equipment power the radio and immediatly hit program. you can also try forcing the test mode and then program.

Got the radio working again. Thanks guys for your help. For some reason the radio did not like Vtac11 RX only programmed into. The radio would shut off when I would select vtac11. Also if I enable scan on a channel that had Vtac11 in its scan list the radio would shut off.
I removed Vtac11 from the codeplug and the radio is working fine no problems, so far.

great news , I wonder if the cycling is due to a software issue. But since the line is discontinued i guess it dosnt matter anyway.

The Astro Spectra is the only radio that has actually given me heartburn when programming it.

It's fussy about things that other lines are not, the CPS allows weird (but otherwise benign) conflicts that cause the display to say "ILLEGAL" after programming and it's the first radio I've ever had to replace some of the RF guts (antenna switch, etc) because they let go in a high RF environment. I truly believe that it was a stop-gap radio between the Spectra and XTL series, so Mother M just half-a$$ed it into working.

I'm glad you got your issue worked out.

Thanks Stateboy oops I mean OpSec..
I used to have one that said ILLEGAL after programming aswell. I agree the programming can a pain in the arse sometimes.

What was the firmware version? Was it a 2.5k narrow capable unit?
