Problem with Starsoft's WIN95 and PRO-95

I recently bought a PRO-95 and the other day I finally broke down and bought the radio shack PCIF cable. Downloaded WIN95 and began to create from a new template...

I made bank 0 as a Motorola and put in a motorola II TRS, and on bank 1 I made it EDACS and put in an EDACS TRS, and filled up about 2 sublists full of TGID's.

Here's the thing. At first I used DEC like 0673 instead of AFS... I uploaded everything I saved into the scanner...

First thing I noticed was that nothing was set to either mode mot or ed.. I had to manually go behind win95 and push the mode button on each memory channel depending on if it was ed or mot. Then I noticed some memory channels were LOCKED OUT in the scanner but in WIN95 none of the channels were ever locked out.

Back to the talkgroup issue. I don't know if this is just win95 or the scanner itself. I changed my mind and decided to use AFS. So I changed all of the talkgroups for bank 1 to AFS saved it and uploaded to scanner. Now I can't hear ANYTHING in closed mode. If I go to OPEN mode it'll stop on activity but none of the text id's I assigned are coming up. Only the AFS like 05-041. So I changed everything back to DEC, saved, uploaded it again..

Ok this seemed to work. I'm now back in closed mode and I can hear active talkgroups and I'm seeing my text ID's. So any idea what's going on????

Which cable (RS part number) are you using? Is it connected to a serial port, or to a USB->serial converter? (Did you have the channels set as MOT or EDACS, as well as the bank set that way?)

02-289 its DB9 to PCIF connected to serial port. It's the correct cable, and I have no trouble downloading or uploading (communicating) with the scanner.

And yeah like I said, I set it to either Motorola or EDACS when I was configuring the WIN95. And also none of the channels were set to L/O but some of them were locked out when I had it all in the scanner.

I'm not sure what your question is. I also just got my 95 set up with Win95. I already had the scanner programmed by hand (not that hard), but had an extra $25, so I got the cable. The software is definitely a trail by error learning process.

I too did some programming by hand. Have been for the last week. I wanted to try out the WIN95 software so I bought the cable. My question is this...

Like you said, its trial by error. today is my first time ever using "this" software, but not software in total. Maybe it'll work itself out.

Along with setting the bank to "MOT or "EDAC" did you set each channel to that also? If you leave it "FM" it will scan it as a "conventional" channel. This way you can have conventional and trunking in the same bank.

each channel which has a frequency assigned was designated properly. those with nothing were left as FM.

Are you "saving" your new template every time you change it, and before you send it to the 95?

Post you file as a zip file on here and someone might be able to look at it for you and tell you what is wrong. I have a '96 so I can't load it into the scanner and see.

Either 1) operator error, 2) a bad serial port, 3) a bad cable (there are active components in the DB 9 shell) or 4) a bad download of the program. I've programmed and reprogramed my 95 with Don's program and have never had the program put anything into the scanner that wasn't in the program GUI.

Maybe Don has heard of this problem before and will comment.

Try this. Pull up Win95 with the template that you were loading from your HD. Hook up your correctly operating scanner and Download from the scanner (Ctrl-D).

Then using the software (either system) go to the Channels Tab, Bank 0 and click between the saved template and the one you just downloaded from the scanner to observe what the differences are.
