I am having problems scanning with my bc296d. I live in ct and in hartford county. When i scan the scanner locks up on me. It stops scanning and shows me like one channel. but not transmissions. when i hit manual it switches to a totally different channel. like sometimes it is locked on channel 029 and then when i press manual it jumps to like 300 or some other channel. The only way i can get it to scan again is to press manual and then scan or to turn it off and back on. Anyone have a clue on what may be cause this to happen.

is it doing this while scanning conventionally or while trunk tracking?

It sounds like a hardware or firmware issue, I'd call Uniden.

I am new to scanning but it happens when i just turn it on and leave it alone for a while. i have it scanning trunked and conventional frequencies in the same bank, one trunked group to a bank then i have conventional frequencies

Hows the squelch?

Signial strength any good?

Did you program via software?

Remember to input everything exactly as suppose to?

Read the manual throughly and make sure you understand all!

If you don't understand the least one thing, post here. That's what this site is for.

I too own a BC296D.

All else fails try an erase of the scanner and reprogram. To do this, turn off radio, press and hold, 2-9-manual at the same time while turning on. (makes me wonder why it couldn't be one magic little button)

First question - does it always stop on the same frequency (or frequencies)?

Second question - what information does the display show when it stops scanning?

Third question - Which Trunked system are you scanning?

Fourth question - Which Conventional channels are you scanning?

For testing purposes, I suggest putting the Trunk Frequencies in one bank, and the conventional frequencies in a different bank.
