• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My UV5R is acting up. When I turn the radio on if it is on A channel and I keep up it work fine. If I switch it to B channel it will not key up. And Vise Versa if I turn it on if it is on B channel it will key up, if I switch it to A channel it will not. I reset radio and reprogrammed it and it worked fine for a few days then went right back to doing same thing again. Any ideals on a fix for this.

Thank You

What frequencies does it act up on? What is the offset set at? Does offset change? Does the amount of offset change? Since these radios seem to cause an awful lot of problems, have you reviewed the many threads posted on this subject. In other threads, people have requested a post of pictures from the display screen to look at various settings. Finally, getting a real radio may help.

You say you reprogrammed, it worked fine for a couple of days. What was added during the two or three days? Since you have a file of your radio settings, reset the radio. see if you are getting the same results with the default frequencies that the radio has. then program 1 frequency. then see if you are getting the same results.

It might be useful and would certainly be interesting to know if the value is getting switched that instructs the radio which (A, B, or either) to transmit on when TDR is active. I can't get to CHIRP right now an a look through a couple of online manuals didn't reveal the label of that value. If I find it later, I'll post.

Thank you everyone. I will see what I can find out. As far as getting a real radio........ I cant afford one. My family's needs come before my hobby even though I use this to help with tornado spotting with our city emergency management unit. But family still comes first. But if anyone has a spare Real Radio laying around fell free to send it my way. Thanks everyone

It's a "real" radio... a real cheap radio too. I use one and like them. Getting a more reliable radio that might cost more makes sense for you and I wish you well in your endeavors.

It most certainly is a "real" radio. If it weren't a real radio then you wouldn't have to have a license to use it. I have several Baofengs and use them all the time. I like them and have not had a problem with them that wasn't my fault.

GCSOD45, if you have the cable, for the radio, program it, and save that file. Then when the radio acts up, before you program again, read the radio and save that file. N ow compare the two files and see what is changing. This might give you an idewa how to stop the change.

My Apologies to Everyone

Apparently everyone thinks I was bad mouthing my radio. My comment about real radio was in ref to robertmacs comment saying I needed to get a real radio. And yes I have a licsense and have had one for 12 years. So once again I apologize to everyone.

Hi Delbert,

I don't know have a way to make this happen if you wanted it to happen. Are you sure you aren't selecting a channel that has been intentionally TX inhibited?

As mentioned before, it would be nice to get a CHIRP Radio Image saved from the radio when it is working and another image saved when it isn't so they could be compared.

gcsod45, I wasn't thinking that either. My comment was meant to be reassuring in light of what other people try to say about the Baofengs. It's a "real" radio and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Me thinks you have the offset set wrong in the B side.so if offset is set to + its out of band (so it wont transmit)! default is some number like 49.999MHZ UHF is 5.000 or vhf is .600 offset.

Baofeng is cheap. The receive is less than optimal, the battery life is meh on the 1700mah battery aka the one it comes with, the transmit audio is low.Anyone that says its good has never owned an Alinco,Yaesu,Icom or Kenwood.Anytone is actual decent for cheap radios.....Or a wouxun Kg-uv8d its decent...

No apology necessary. I initially thought you were bad mouthing the inexpensive radio and then realized that I misunderstood you post. So, I edited my post and gave the reason for edit as "Tone". If anything, I apologize to you if you read my unedited post because I misunderstood or misread your initial post the first time around.

Cheers! :)

Its all good everyone... On my days off (if there is such a thing) I will copy the radio and compare it to the original chirp I loaded into it to see if something changed. This has happened twice now. Radio was working fine then this started. I reset the radio and reloaded the original chirp again. used radio for a couple of day and all was well. but after about 2 weeks it did it again. Once again thanks everyone for your comments and help. I really do enjoy this radio.
