I live in the St. Mary's City area of St. Mary's County. I have always kept a TSYS dedicated to the Naval Air Station Patuxent River's UHF analog Motorola II Smartnet system, as well as a TSYS dedicated to the Joint National Capital Region's Patuxent River "380" frequencies. I had never had a problem monitoring the PAX RVR NAS, as I live close to the Webster Field annex. It was always very active. I would hear things like "Baywatch patrol," etc. For me to pick up anything on the "380" system, I would have to be in Lexington Park, or in the immediate vicinity of the base. Now, both systems have appeared to go "silent." For the record, I am using a GRE 500 for both systems. I have a PRO 96 as well that also had no problem monitoring the UHF Motorola II Smartnet system. Now all is silent. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? It all seemed to go "silent" at once.

Thank you in advance,
John Crupi

The first thing I would check, and it sounds very likely, is that a new control channel (or one not in the db) came up that you don't have in your list. The obvious way to check this, if you can, is to step through each of the freqs manually, and see what has that ugly raspy sound...best regards..Mike

Thanks Mike! I did as you suggested, went through all of the channels manually, and no "ugly, raspy sound." I know the sound you are mentioning. Thanks again for the tip.

I decided to bring my BCD-396T scanner in to work and see what was up with the Pax radio systems. I programmed the radio for the Joint National Capital Region data from RadioReference. It immediately found the Control Channel (386.5250) and started tracking and producing good audio for each talkgroup that it found. In a short time, it saw talkgroups 22111, 22117, 22158 and one not listed in the RadioReference list ... 22180 (not sure what it is .. I heard them mention "maintenance"). Anyway .. it is up and working. I am located just north of gate 1 along Rt 235.

It would appear, then that the 400 mhz system is offline. Not surprising, as more and more bases are moving into the 380 mhz fed/mil trunking. If this can be confirmed, a database ticket could be submitted to drop the system (hint hint)

The wiki can also then be changed (another hint) best regards..Mike
