i'm not familiar with EDACS. i assume once you've tuned into the control channel that the Site window will pop up and call history will start showing calls.
the reason you hear voice/data and back to static may be that you've
parked your voice VCO on one of the channel freq, instead of 0 (zero).
i suggest first getting your signal VCO setup properly before worrying about hearing voice calls.
here are my suggestions:
- plugin one RTL unit
- select your signal receiver
- under [Info] tab, verify the following is set properly:
- RTL Device
- Correction (ppm) value
- Gain (divide by 10 for dB value) (try 288)
- Drift Correction, Auto Gain & Baseband AGC unchecked for the time being
- Sample Rate = lowest value (.96 mbps)
- VCOs = 1
- Under VCO:
- VCO > Role = Signal
- Voice > Mute = checked
- Voice > Audio output = unspecified
- Voice > Digital output = unspecified
- Voice > Parked = {the control channel freq}
- Signal > Discover = checked
- Signal > protocol (motorola, apco p25, edacs96, edacs48, mpt1327) = all checked
then click the Play button. if the status changes to Running, after a while unitrunker should determine the signal protocol and show it under VCO > Protocol. it should be EDACSxx as you said. VCO > Health should be close to 100.
once you've verified the protocol, you can only select that protocol, uncheck Signal > Discover, and all the remaining protocols.
if that works and my assumption about EDACS is correct, the Site window should pop up with activity under [Call History] tab.
when you get there, we can move on with voice decoding.
