• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

F70/F80 Scan

This should actually be in another section since this section is for Icom Receivers, not Icom Radios, so moderators, do your thing.

The short answer is yes. If the radio is scanning all channels in the radio, all the channels have been assigned to a single scan list. OK if you only have a few channels, not so OK if you've got lots of channels programmed.

The F70/F80 is very flexible in its scan function options, but what and how the the radio scans and what user functions and options are available to you through the buttons depends entirely on how you set up the functions and user options in the programming software. With that said, are you referring to the user scan programming through programmed buttons or programming scan functions using the software?

If you're referring to setting up scan functions and options in the programming software, the Help file index should put you on track as to how to do it by telling you what each software field selection does. If you're using the radio programming software, I can tell you how to set it up once I know what you want it to do.

The short answer for software programming is that you first have to go to SCAN in the tree view, go to Scan List, and set up what type of scan you want in a particular scan list. Then when you're programming the Memory Channels, you go to the SCAN LISTS column on the channel line you're programming and place check marks in the scan list slots you want that channel to be scanned in.

There are 10 programmable scan lists plus the Zone Scan list. Zone scan applies only to the channels in the zone you are selected on.

You can choose the scan list and edit the scan list channels on the fly as well as option scrolling by programming certain buttons for user options.

Is that clear as mud?

That sounds like only 1 zone was programmed and all the channels were put into that one zone. That would account for the inability to change zones - there weren't any other zones, and it would explain why it scanned all the channels.

As you program channels, the software places all channels entered into Scan List 1 no matter what zone you happen to be entering channels. You have to go to the Scan List column in each channel line and change that if you want the channel in another scan list. You can put any channel from any zone in any scan list, but you can only access that channel from the zone it's programmed in, so it's best to put all channels in a given zone in the Z slot. That way it will scan only the channels in the scan list in the zone you're in, and with user programming options, you can edit the list on the fly.

If you want special scan lists and want to keep up with what zones those channels are in, you can use the numbered scan lists to match the zone number, such as Scan List 1 goes with Zone 1, Scan List 2 goes with Zone 2, etc. An example would be to let Zone Scan do the normal scanning setup for Zone 1, and set up Scan List 1 with a different Scan Type to do only certain channels or channels in Priority A and B in Zone 1. With the right buttons programmed for user programming, you can select and edit the lists on the fly. Just remember that there are only 10 numbered scan lists, so Zone Scan is the only choice for each of the 32 zones to have a scan list of its own.
