To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm having a heck of time trying to get my XTS5000 programmed to work with my Zumspot running Pi-Star for P25.

I can't figure how to program talkgroups?

Do I need to use MDC?

I'm sure these are basic questions but can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Im not going to research to much what Pi-Star is but what little i found mentioned DMR and not P25.

If you can provide the specific link to the P25 information that might be helpful.

Hi...thanks for the reply. Pi-Star runs on a hotspot board which supports DMR, Dstar and P25. My biggest challenge seems to be how to program talkgroups for conventional P25??

Thanks!

Talkgroups are a P25 construct not analog so you need to work with one of your Astro systems.

You'll find everything you need under Conventional/ASTRO systems to setup your talkgroups.

Once that's done, you enable the talkgroups in your Conventional Personality under the ASTRO Talkgroups Options tab.

What Mike said for sure and I do believe that you need your assigned DMR ID entered in as your P25 radio ID. I run BK KNG P25 radios on a Pi-Star all day long and the programming was extremely simple.

P25 conventional simplex channels in low power, one for each of the TG's on the Pi-Star system, and my DMR ID as the radio ID
