To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a TK-2170 radio. MY fire dept. has 3 houses. What I want is to put the radio on one channel and have the radio alert to each house. We use only one frequency for dispatch. I have the tone set as two tone 1,2, and 3 . I would like to have the radio sit on this one frequency channel and alert to which ever house is paged.

How can I do this ? the radio will work if I have 3 channels one for each house but I only get paged if the channel is set to the correct house before the page. If someone can walk me through how to do this. I do have the KPG 101D program.

thanks for any help.

How are your tones set up? Same A-tone with different B/C/D tones? Or a total cluster like most?

I just did one yesterday for a medic supervisor that was set up with a common leading A-tone and three unique tones for himself and two units under him to be alerted during the day, and set up A-B, A-C, A-D on "2-tone 1" and then just the A-B for night time on "2-tone 2" on a separate channel.

To correct myself, it appears the 170s will only do a max of two (A-B/A-C) (no A-D). Sorry.

All of our tones are different A tone and B tone. The encode is the same. Can you tell me where in the program software I should be looking to put in the tones? Or under call format do I make one tone for station 1 as AB and station 2 CD . in the software I go to edit then encode and then I see a list of 10 places to put info. I also see in same place for decode two tone 1, 2 and 3 Just trying to get to the correct info into the right area in the program software?

EDIT->2-tone->Decode 1/2/3 (likely 2-tone 1, but check your dispatch channel Optional Signaling option to verify).

Set 2 to C-D and set the tones as needed.

Encode is for transmitting tones (you don't want that one).

Just two houses. On other Kenwood models you could get 3, but this radio will only support two. I have one on the bench in front of me I tested on.

Is there an all-call tone (long tone?) set for your battalion?
