I recently got a Uniden BCD436HP. I did all of the basics. Updated database and firmware. My problem is that I am unable to pick up our local police (Duluth, MN). My Whistler 1040 picks up everything. The 436 picks up the weather channel. When I disconnect the antenna, the weather channel is gone so I believe the antenna (stock) is working ok. I went so far as to make a favorites list with just the five police frequencies. Set it to scan the list and nothing. I really want to like this radio! What could the difference be between my Whistler and the Uniden?

Are you using a Favorites list that you created, or just using the main database, along with your location & a range? If using Location & Range, make sure your location is entered & saved correctly. If using a Favorites list, did you create it manually, or by appending from the main database?

As noted above, be sure that all Service Types are enabled, turn on the Full Database and see how it goes. While scanning, please note whether you see anything in the signal strength indicators.

You are in a simulcast system where there are multiple transmitters transmitters on the same frequencies. The scanner is being bombarded with numerous incoming Xs and Os and may be having trouble decoding the audio. This is called simulcast distortion and manifests itself by either garbled or no audio.

You can search this site for numerous entries on this pain the rear issue. There are things you can try that may improve. The SDS scanner line was created to deal with this issue.

Count your blessings that your other scanner receives it.

Using both the Sentinal software and Proscan, I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong (Site IDs) and I am 100% good to go! Thanks to the entire community for all of the help!
