I am going to be visiting Oklahoma City for a couple of days and I want to monitor the city and county. I understand it is an EDACS system, but I have never tried to use a core simulcast layer system like they have. Is there anything special I should do to program the frequencies?

I have a Uniden BC245XLT.

.. I understand it is an EDACS system ..
Remember, it is a *provoice* EDACS system. That may change your desire to monitor it. Outside of that, there is really nothing special that you will need to do. Put the outer ring in one bank and the inner ring in another bank. The rings just expand coverage.

The best place to get mexican food in OKC is Ted's. Enjoy your stay.

What does provoice EDACS system mean and why do you think I should reconsider monitoring? I monitor the EDACS system in Kansas City, MO and it seems to work just great.

Also, is there anything special to monitoring OHP?

Where is Ted's located?

Thanks for the reply.

Provoice is a non monitorable digital format which is proprietary to MACOM. There are no scanners that can decode it.

I'm guessing the other police frequencies are useless.

The OHP is not on the OKC Edacs system. They have their own system which is Motorola and can be monitored. The state of Oklahoma system also has quite a few OKC suburbs on it.
If you go to the database tab and click on Oklahoma them trunking you can find the State of OK DPS
database. Program in site 8 Okc and you will have most all you can hear in OKC.

Listen in on the old PD VHF channels, most are still active as of last Saturday. Also put the state DPS system in there. That should cover most of OKC.

As redhelmet alluded to, provoice is digital modulation of a spoken voice and it can only be decoded with an OEM radio. The RR Wiki has been stuff full of information that you can use to get yourself up to speed on different stuff, take some time just to surf it out. Additionally, the fourms here rehash nearly every topic that you can think of on a regular basis so you can use the search option to sift for specific data.

Naw, it is a moto system. Load TG's and go as my esteemed colleagues have pointed out. ;)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...sult&cd=1&q=teds+escondito+cafe+oklahoma+city

The north and south locations will serve hard liquor for margaritas etc, but the center location will only serve beer.

Be sure to tell them it is your first time there .. they usually will bring out free food ya to sample.

:)
