BCD996P2 on the way. I have watched many programing videos on manually programing, Onegrave has good ones. In one video he said go to my county (Anderson, TN) and the first RR page will show sheriff, fire, ect. frequencies, then click on TACN and on this page and scroll down to my county and this will show frequencies associated with a certain tower and put in these frequencies. If this is what I need to do, how do I know which frequency is sheriff, fire ect.? I hope my post makes sense and is not too dumb of a question, is something going over my head?

After you read what @jtwalker posted, go and look at the database for your county. Anything labeled "DE or TE" you're not going to be able to receive, it's encrypted. Looked at a quick glance there is still quite a bit for you to receive though on the TACN system.
Ok, so the tower/repeater frequencies is where all of the first page RR frequencies (sheriff, fire, ect.) come together and get distributed. So all I need to do is enter the tower/ repeater frequencies like Onegrave said?
Long story short, you have to add the frequencies for the site(s) you want to hear then, enter the Talk group numbers you want to listen to. I don't have the scanner you have but I suspect they program the same.
I have found the "easier to read manual", I will dive into it. Stand by for more questions. You all are having mercy on me like Onegrave said someone did him, thanks.

However, I'd bet most all radio traffic is probably all on TACN.
As stated previously, you need to understand trunking before you can even try to program a scanner.

I see you're a premium user of RR, perhaps get free scan or even the 30 Day trial of Proscan to help you program your scanner. I have no experience with Freescan but, Proscan is pretty awesome. That may help you get your scanner set up more quickly for you.
I am looking into Freescan, maybe it will kinda hold my hand.
