Programmable IC oscillators to replace crystals. Anyone with experience?

A few years ago I saw somewhere on the interwebs some little dip package programmable IC oscillators to replace crystals for radios. Radios that need crystals for transmit and receive (or receive only).

Yes, I have built and used a DDS VFO (and have done that) but these were small dip devices that would fit perfect in a retro-radio with out much modification.

Anyone seen these and or have any experience?

Concerns:
Frequency Accuracy and Stability in PPM
Sideband or Phase noise due to internal logic
Inability to FM modulate as required in most transmit applications.

This is a little more complex and pricy but they have been used to replace crystals in a few repeaters giving incredible accuracy and low phase noise. Its a GPS steered programmable oscillator that can be programmed anywhere from 410Hz to 810MHz. A friend recently used one to replace the master osc in a popular 2m repeater in the Los Angeles area and its working great. Its commonly used with an adapter board in the newer Icom IC-9700 replacing the radios entire master osc to make it rock solid on frequency . I use one as a general purpose oscillator and as a 10MHz source and there is a US distributor for these somewhere.
