Programmimg Issue

Actually, I am not so sure this is a programming issue. I seem to recall reading some time back that the GRE/Radio Shack scanners are quirky when it comes to the antenna. What antenna are you using and have you tried other antennas? I think he thing to remember is some people may have something that works at their locations and it might not work at your site. You could try an antenna made for 800 mHz. If you get a mobile antenna and use it inside try moving it around to different locations in the home to see what happens. If you have a telescoping antenna, try collapsing the antenna to see what happens. Also, this might be a long shot, but do you have the current firmware in the radio?

I admit, I don't understand your dilemma. I am in south central MN and can pickup 8 different tower sites with a simple R/S 19" ground plane antenna @ 35 ft. Three of those sites are more than 40 miles away. At 1150 ASL, terrain must be flatter down here, or it is because I live in the sticks (little electrical interference)...

Out here in outstate MN, most of the sites aren't part of simulcast regions. In the metro, all of them are.

Scanners often have a tough time decoding them because multiple sites are literally transmitting in sync on the same frequencies, and the receiver has to sort out the mess it receives due to signals arriving slightly out of sync. The single (technically "multicast") sites are much easier to reliably decode.

As mentioned earlier, the "fix" is to usually try different antennas or reposition what you have. Directional antennas will often help also by pointing them towards the nearest site in the region.

They're lighting up a two site simulcast region out here in McLeod County, but I'll literally be 2000 feet from one of them, so I shouldn't have any problems.

I never gave signal overload a thought. Thanks! I can pickup Steele County VHF and Blue Earth County VHF simulcast, but once I figured out the TG it was an easy fix to lock it out.
