To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Our rescue squad is contemplating programming their Ht-1250 and CDM-1250 radios themselves. Can someone tell me just what you need to do this. I assume software from motorola, and a cable. But what else? Any help is appreciated.

The software is the same for those 2 models (professional series.) Also, you will need to agree to a license before you can buy any software from Motorola. Then would need the cables for each one and the RIB box, unless of course you are using ribless cables. Other than that, the only thing you need is the info that you will be programming into them.

Thanks for the info. We have both VHF and UHF. Do you know if the software will cover both? Or do we need 2 programs?

I would suggest using ebay for the cables they will only run around $10. The program can be found various places but motorola can be very stuck up about this. I am sorry to say i paid full price for the software and a friend of mine got it off a website. Either way it works for all ht1250 bands.

You can send and receive pager tones using the Quick Call-II feature on the radio.

To put the pager tones into your radio you just need the specific numbers for your tones. Once you have them open the Quick-Call in the programming software and create a new one. Select weither it is a two tone or long tone and put in your tone numbers. Save this and close out this section. Next just open the channel under the conventional personality that your tones will be set off on and open up the signaling section. Under the TX select the quick-call that you entered your tones on and you are all set.

To send the tones is very easy also. Once you have saved the codeplug to the radio you can push the menu button and scroll to radio call, then call alert and the quick call you created should be in there and select that call and push the PTT button and your tones are transmitted.

ht1250 programming

I have a 1250 and the programming software. I have a few questions about programming multiple tone codes per channel. can you have more than 1 set of tones alert the radio on 1 channel? or is it 1 set of tones per channel. Also, with voice store, how can I enable that and how does it work?

You can only do one Quick Call alert on one channel. Each quick call allows 4 tones. My system where I am is a 2-tone system with a common B tone for fire and ambulance, so I need 3 tones for my company's alert. If you have a 2-tone system and want two companies tones, you can do that, provided they are all different tones (or share 1 common tone). If you need more than 4 individual tones, you cannot put them all on one channel.

Does that make sense??

In order to do the voice storage, you have to have that added to the actual radio (called an option board) before you can activate it in the CPS software. If you already have that, each conventional personality should have a voice storage feature.
