• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a new 296D. What i was wondering is if the offset/s for a certain system near me can be derived from the offset data figured from the table info from the pro-96com readout, then put into the 296D.

I tried putting in the offset value which works in my pro-96 into the 296D and it will not accept it. Apparently it has to be 380- whatever the limit is with that format

The offset issue in all the scanners for UHF and VHF systems, ie. 380, 460, or wherever it's supposed to be set at, how can this cross-reference to the table info of a system's channels on pro96com?

There is a download up on uniden's site i believe which has to do with tables and the radio's ability to follow systems that do not advert the info at all on the control channels for those systems. I don't know if it's applicable to 800/900 systems only, or straight across all the systems including the VHF UHF.

The manual states that type 2 p-25 UHF or digital systems in the UHF 450-512 band can be followed. I take it that the 406-420 systems can be followed if programmed correct??

I basically need to be fed on how to push the buttons on this thing to make it work, i don't believe i will have to mess with it the same way as the pro-96 extended tables programming with the off the wall offsets (4 and 5 digit ones according to the channels and what tables). Any help would be appreciated. I have looked all over creation for the workaround clue with this and have not seen it anywhere.

I got the 296 because of the amber light, i can read it easier and i know it will essentially do the same as the 396 minus 5,000 channels i don't need really. I need to learn my way around this one before i do get a 396 or any newer version to be.

The manual is not very exacting in what to do. Thanks, John.

I'll bet there are folks here asking the same question - specifically what system are you trying to monitor? Once that information is obtained, I'll bet you'll get a ton of answers.

Thanks, i uploaded the firmware off uniden's site about following systems that do not advert what is going on, the 296 is doing it's thing and working well.

The system is a VHF HI trunked that required the pro-96 to be programmed in the extended tables. Thanks, Curfew.
