If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

Can someone point me in the right direction for how to program a CDM1550-LS?
  • I have version R06.12.05
  • I am not sure what version was originally used to program the frequencies
I have searched online, but have been unable to find consistent information. My questions are:
  • What kind of cable do I need?
  • Which version of Windows can I use?
  • If I need a different version of CPS, can I purchase it from Motorola, or is this radio too old?
Thanks for any suggestions you have.

I've not had any luck trying to run the Professional series CPS on a 64 bit Windows machine. I've always had issues with how the CPS wants to handle the COM port. Windows XP and Windows 7 32 bit have worked flawlessly for me though.

Ok thank you both, that is helpful. I have tried it on a 64 bit Windows machine, but am getting errors, so I'll try an older version of Windows.

What I used to do when I was running Windows 7 64 bit (professionally) was use XP mode to buffer the COM port and that worked fine.

I have no problem programming my EX560XLS on my Win 7 64 bit with R6.12.05, the only thing is I use a USB to serial converter cable to a serial programming cable

I use Win7 64 bit Core I7 with Professional Series CPS just fine.
I use the Valley Industries USB programming cable. I installed the driver they provided and the CPS see's the USB cable com port fine.
I can vouch that 64 bit does work, but with so many variables with people's computers, maybe something unique to your setup is stopping it form working?
