Hopefully this will be a simple question for you guys so here goes. Just recently got my trunking scanner not too long ago, so I don't have programming software yet. But thats ok with me because I wanted to take a shot at programming by hand.

Anyway, I got the site ID entered along with the control channels, but could someone tell me what system type I should select for ARMER?

Now I now the ARMER system is P25, but I have read articles that said to program P25's as Motorola Type 2, on most scanners. But unfortuntely that isn't a choice in the TGRP setup for my radio which is Radioshack 197.

Hand programming a complicated system like ARMER is definitely a challenge. Just one incorrect setting can throw the hole thing off.

My suggestion is to get the computer programming "stuff" the kind that has the ability to capture the programming information from the RR database. It not only saves a lot of work, but is fairly reliable with the correct settings.

Unfortunately I can't help you with your specific question as I know little about Radioshack scanners. (I did program one once, but used the computer software to do it). Having said all that, on a Uniden scanner, the system type, as in P25 which ARMER is, is something programmed on the system level and not in the talkgroups.

Hi scannerland82:

Welcome to Radio Reference. Just a friendly reminder for you....whatever software you decide to use for programming and if you want to import data from the RR database requires a Premium Membership. But if you want to program by hand, then it's not needed.

Again, welcome aboard.
