programming bc296d

I have had this 296d for a year and a half.No problem installing software or frequencies until a few days ago when I try to store or load freqs,I get a message that says communication error!Please check bc296d or bc796d ss remote.Everything is connected as was.As a 30 yr scanner hobbyist,I need help on this one. Thanks.

WHY IS THIS A POLL
Check the Com port. Something else has the port open. It is getting a error trying to open the port.

Programming the Bc296D

I get that error sometimes when I forget to go into the menu and set it for pc-control.
1.Press menu button.
2.press #3
3. Press #5, select speed I use 6
then try to program it.
